Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and also am trained and certified in Play Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I was a graduate (three times!) of Longwood University, initially intending to be an English teacher, then eventually returning to get my Master’s Degrees in Special Education and Community and College Counseling. I enjoy working with children and teens because of the questions that they ask themselves and the world around them. It is those questions which enable us to become who we will be, and the relationships that we are able to build during this critical time that give us the foundation of security and support. Over the years, I have worked with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as individuals who have suffered trauma, adjustment problems, depression, and anxiety. Clients find that working with play and sand tray enable them greater expression. Adolescents and adults benefit from sand tray work as it can access different parts of the brain, and can allow for different modes of expression, sometimes aiding individuals to express things that they have not been able to historically.
